SPS Product ManualWork StructureApplications

Work Structure in SPS|PM can be used for: 1) Analysis and optimization, 2) Planning and commitment of work and 3) Visualization of workflows.

Through robust work structuring, SPS|PM enables analysis and optimization of work by allowing Production Analytics to be produced and analyzed based on the structure of the work as well as using selected attributes such as Team, Member, Discipline / Trade, Company, Status and Type. See Performance Improvement for information on how Reports, Decision-Support Mechanisms and Analytics expose performance improvement opportunities based on actual project data and enable project teams to improve process designs, identify and address sources of variability, reduce cycle times and work-in-process and achieve optimal throughput and capacity utilization.

Effective structuring of work can also enable better planning of hand-offs among teams and team members by clearly defining the scope of work for commitment within the designated Planning Horizon. This is important as it enables project teams to effectively allocate capacity based on agreed priorities, balance workload with available capacity and forecast capacity needs.

The definition and configuration of a robust Work Structure enables the ability to visualize and isolate complex workflows and critical hand-offs that occur at a detailed task level and at the higher (less detailed) project / program level. In this way, project teams can zoom in to optimize workflow and zoom out to visualize forecasts for the delivery of project objectives.
